At last! TMBG has returned to the world of kids stuff! It's a fantastic set of 18 new songs called Why? What kind of album is Why? Well, it’s not bad for you but it’s not good for you either. It’s just about fun, like TMBG's first kids album No! Why? is memorable songs in family-friendly package with none of that pandering aftertaste.

Like previous TMBG kid productions it’s a family affair with John Flansburgh’s wife Robin “Goldie” Goldwasser singing a couple of tracks, while bassist Danny Weinkauf, joined by his daughter, steps up to the mic for the song Elephants. Alison Cowles, the daughter longtime video animation collaborator David Cowles (The Mesopotamians, We Live in a Dump, Science is Real) has contributed all the illustrations for the album. Right out of the gate TMBG hits the listener with the odd brilliance of “Oh You Did” through the folkie charm of “Out of A Tree,” the full rocking of “Or So I Have Read” the perky “I Just Want to Dance,” and wrapping things up with the optimism of “Then The Kids Took Over.” Why? has everything to delight both kids and parents.

All orders include an instant download of the album delivered to your inbox.

Includes unlimited streaming of Why? via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

Now you're informed and you've been warned So don't Oh wait, you did Sorry, sorry Don't be angry I didn't mean to do it I swear I'll never do that again Don't drop eggs from the 14th story window Oh, you did Really, you should not go anywhere high up and drop an egg Like the Pyramids of Gizza Or the Leaning Tower of Pizza You know what? Don't drop anything from anywhere Too late, you did How did the carton of milk get filled with shaved off puppy hairs? What's that river of water doing pouring down the stairs? Did you just eat a napkin To find out what would hap-kin? I thought I told you not to But you had to And you did Sorry, sorry Don't be angry I didn't mean to do it I swear I'll never do that again Blah blah blah da blee Blah blee blah blah blah blah blah blee blah Blah blah blah da blah Blah blah blee blah blah blah blee blah blah Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm Blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah da blah Blah blah blah blah blah

Just an inch away from your face I am staring into your eyes You would be surprised if you could see What's an inch from your face But it's impossible I am invisible Tiptoeing and holding my breath Almost knocking over a lamp Barely able to contain a sneeze I am invisible I am invisible I am invisible Did you notice something? Was there somebody there? No, apparently not There you felt it again Something creeping around That you can't see Doing jumping jacks in the bank Dancing through the supermarket Spinning in the courtroom on one leg I am invisible I am invisible I am invisible There are details That I haven't worked out Like when I eat my lunch Does it disappear Or do you see it going all the way down? Did the cat just learn how to fly? No, I'm only holding him up Did the cat turn on the dishwasher? No, I'm holding his paw Pushing down on the switch Making it look like he's Doing it by himself Cause I'm invisible I am invisible I am invisible

Moles. Moles. Spending their lives down a hole And when it’s raining they get complaining And run around out of control Moles Hounds. Hounds. Walk with their nose to the ground The joy in their eyes and The shock of surprise when They bring you the thing that they found Hounds! Don’t wake up the hibernating bear He’ll spend all winter there Asleep Bees. Bees. Spend most of their time inside hives But when the breeze knocks the hive off the trees oh We better run for our lives. Bees Hares. Hares. Some call them bunnies—who cares? Though it sounds phony Rabbits were coney Out on this island right hare. Hares Don’t wake up the hibernating bear He’ll spend all winter there Asleep

(People, what d'you think of that?) That's where I'm at, that's where I'm at Happy, sad, and crazy wonder Choking up my mind with perpetual dreaming Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Dog is a good old cat (Dog is a good old cat) People, whatcha think of that? Animals can smell your dreams Or so I have read That explains the constant sniffing Under your bed Or so I have read It says it right here And did you know That mixing paint with milk will make it clear? Barber poles are found in the wild And caught in a cage If you count the stripes You can determine their age Or so says the sage That authored this page Who owns a self-consuming timepiece Called the chronophage Everything you hear is a fact And the opposite is also correct If you swallowed up the planet You would be a wiser man It would be inside your head So I have read You may not believe this But it has been shown The reason clouds are white Is that they're made out of bone And when I found out I slapped my own face For now I know why skeletons Are up in outer space Someday in the distant future So I have read Microscopic astronauts Will land on your head There's so much to know Can't put this book down A mime is the hybrid offspring Of a human and a clown Everything you hear is a fact And the opposite is also correct If you swallowed up the planet You would be a wiser man It would be inside your head Or so I have read

They're not the largest mammals But they're biggest on the land So when I say "please step away" I know you'll understand They've got two tusks up front for fighting Or digging in the dirt So you can see how easily You'd end up getting hurt Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your town today Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your town today The elephants are coming through your town today They're great communicators With waves called infra-sound Seismically clear, you'd barely hear Them travel through the ground And while the cows all stick together And congregate at home The bulls go out and walk about They'd rather be alone Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your town today Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your town today Elephants are coming through your town today Elephants are coming through your town today Did you hear about the farmer, who had a house built in Sri Lanka? Well, it was right in the middle of an elephant migration path. And boy, those elephants didn't care for it one bit. In fact, they got tired of walking around it, and one day, and one day, they walked right through it. Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your house today Get out of the way Get out of the way The elephants are coming through your house today Elephants are coming through your house today Elephants are coming through your house today

Everything I say is true And for your delight I have such a tale for you Can you stand the excitement? I had a beautiful sleep And I had some beautiful dreams My family was there And we laughed and we laughed The alarm clock rang and I gasped I woke up with a long white beard A long white beard A long white beard Like Zeus on Mount Olympus With a long white beard And eyebrows most surprisingly long Last night I walked in my sleep And last night I talked while I dreamed My grandma was there And she gave me some cocoa But when I awoke, it was loco I woke up with a ten foot tail A ten foot tail A ten foot tail And just like a sleepwalker With a ten foot tail Some collectables were knocked to the ground

Get your eight-year-old out of a tree Get your eight-year-old out of a tree Got up there, quite a ways There's no ladder as tall as that tree And what's sadder is he's still in that tree Just what could've made him Of course you forbade him He's a child Hear the sounds of laughter High above the rafters He's gone wild Neighbors shocked but they still all agree There's no talking him down from that tree And it rains, still he stays Get your eight-year-old out of a tree Get your eight-year-old out of a tree Now your nine-year-old lives in a tree Now your nine-year-old wants no T.V. Not a stage, not a phase Now your nine-year-old has been set free Now your nine-year-old's home is a tree

The earth is our one home The earth is so fragile it seems It's warmer and warmer And things have gone from strange to extreme And then the kids took over That's when the future began And when the kids took over They had an un-secret plan And when the kids took over They didn't walk no they ran And when the kids took over It was the future Neglected deflected Can't undo what is already done Aware now with know-how With power from the wind and the sun And then the kids took over That's when the future began And when the kids took over They had an un-secret plan And when the kids took over They didn't walk no they ran And when the kids took over It was the future (Spoken:) Listen up! I was stomping around with my giant carbon footprint But now I got so tiny you really gotta squint I learned there was a lot I can do Recycling, self-reliance, energy conservation, no matter how small I even planted a tree, now it's twelve feet tall And then the kids took over That's when the future began And when the kids took over They had an un-secret plan And when the kids took over They didn't walk no they ran And when the kids took over It was the future
