As They Might Be Giants expanded from live performance with a tape recorder to a full backing band, taking their new, fuller sound into the studio was a natural move, and John Henry, their first full length album with live musicians, documents this moment in TMBG’s evolution. The band arranged the album while woodshedding in upstate New York at the legendary Bearsville Studios. While John Henry’s organic sound and fuller production initially took many by surprise, show-stopping staples like “Meet James Ensor,” “No One Knows My Plan,” “Spy,” and “The End Of The Tour” have stood the test of time.
